Miss Universe 2018 brought women from across 94 nations together for the biggest pageant in the world.
The Philippines Catriona Gray was named Miss Universe 2018 in a competition concluding Monday in Bangkok, besting contestants from 93 other countries and delighting her home country.
Gray was the social media favorite to win the 2018 Miss Universe pageant after wowing judges during the Miss Universe preliminaries with her slow-mo twirl.
The first Miss Universe contest originated in Texas back in the 1920s, as a way to raise Galveston’s profile as a tourist attraction.
She responded: “If they ever give you, like, a really, really, really important envelope, try to read carefully, OK?”
“This is about love and forgiveness,” Harvey said at the top of the broadcast, which was delayed by a football game on the east coast.
“What an honor and pride to be part of the history of @missuniverse,” she wrote in Spanish. “This is for you, for those who have no visibility, no voice, because we all deserve a world of respect, inclusion and freedom.
