Police have checked in on Pete Davidson after the comedian posted a worrying message on Instagram on Saturday Night Live Hours.
Appearing live, the comedian introduced the night’s musical guests Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson. He sported a red sweater and green blazer for the late night show’s holiday episode.
Police officers met with Davidson in person, NYPD Lt Paul Ng said. Ng would not say where or when the wellness check was done.
Pete Davidson wrote on Instagram Saturday afternoon that he didn’t “want to be on this earth anymore.” The post came shortly after the SNL cast member had used the social media platform to applaud Kanye West for speaking openly about his own mental health issues.
The spokesperson said there was “no immediate need” for police to remove Davidson from the building. NBC declined to comment on the post and the welfare check by police.
As news of Davidson’s post spread, public figures flooded social media with messages of support.
Pete Davidson … hang in there. There is a lot of help out here. Surrender to some love some where around you … today! Right now! And then … let in the help that will become available. I’m praying for you Pete. I’ve been there. It gets better.

We need to be kinder to each other… Like I said on the show – it is okay if your holiday is not easy and happy. Sending love and light to Pete Davidson…
