Musician R. Kelly was taken into custody Wednesday after failing to comply with a judge’s order that he pay more than $161,000 in child support.
Kelly spent 3 days in jail last month after he was arrested for multiple counts of sexual abuse, including allegations that three of the four victims were underage
Kelly was also indicted on 21 charges related to child pornography resulting from the second anonymously sent videotape of him appearing to have sex with a young girl.
Last month, a Cook County judge issued an order that would send Kelly to jail if he did not pay $161,663 he owes his ex-wife, Drea Kelly, by 10 a.m. today.
He will be released once he pays the amount owed, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman told.
R. Kelly once lamented his financial troubles in a song.
“I’m a broke a – – legend,” Kelly riffed in the expletive-riddled “I Admit,” released last year. “The only reason I stay on tour is cause I’ve got to pay my rent … I admit I had to borrow a couple of m’s from the label. All these hits out, but I couldn’t put food on the table.”
